Let me spill the beans on Johnny Cay Island in San Andres Colombia – it's legit beautiful! If you're looking for a fun, different kind of beach getaway check out this spot. The white sandy beaches, crystal-clear turquoise water and the tropical vibe give you such peace. Johnny Cay is part of the San Andres Archipelago, with soft sand, water so clear you'll see fish doing their little fish dances. We took a 5-day trip to San Andres and truly loved it! We are beach people and always visit Colombia. So, we decided to check out Johnny Cay as one of our must do activities in San Andres. We booked ourselves a half day excursion at the hotel we were staying at. The GHL Relax Hotel, formerly The Sunrise. Great hotel with breakfast included and right on the beach.
Getting to Johnny Cay was a breeze. The ride was fun, and the warm sun felt so nice on our skin. As for activities, we went snorkeling and spent the day having a traditional Colombian lunch. If you are into that, grab your snorkel gear and dive in – it's a marine life extravaganza. They have many tours in San Andres, and you don't even have to check out Johnny Cay. However, we highly recommend it, and you will love it! Here are some other tours that may interest you.
Since we've been to Colombia many times, we always enjoy our Colombian treats!
In San Andres, it's very tropical, so the Caribbean flare is there. Think coconuts, and pineapples. If you like seafood you're in for a feast. We enjoyed fresh fish catches, indulged in coconut rice with shrimp, plantains, and yucca, – a taste of heaven right there. I even had some ceviche freshly made boatside. We also devoured some buñuelos, a heavenly cheese fritter! One of those, with Colombian coffee is a must!
In any hot, sunny place you should protect your skin. However, sunscreen is your best friend in Johnny Cay. – the sun here is no joke. Protect yourself! We were warned about the sun and how strong it is in Johnny Cay. As long as you take the right precautions you will love Johnny Cay! My hubby learned about the strength of the sun's rays on our second day! After that trip, he always wears a sun shirt and sunscreen.
